The Clare Valley Wine & Wilderness Trail Committee, together with Corporate Sponsor “The Clare Valley Walk” would like to invite you to Walk, Wine & Dine in the Clare Valley during the 2026 Gourmet Week Celebrations.

We are hosting 4 walks throughout the week showcasing some of the best bits of the trail, in addition to sampling delicious gourmet food and premium Clare Valley wine.

Walks 1 & 2 – Festival Walks

Each Festival Walk takes place during the traditional Gourmet Weekend, we’ll stop at wineries where there will be time to buy food and wine before continuing.

Walk 1 – Stage 2 & 3 CVWWT

• Date & Time:     16th May 9am
• Route:                Blue Gum Lookout to Killikanoon
• Distance:            Approximately 8km
• Wineries:           Jeanneret, Skillogalee, Mitchel Wines & Kilikanoon
• Food & Drink:     Multiple Opportunities to buy from wineries
• Transport:          Make your way to the Blue Gum lookout, we’ll try and have a plan to get you back
• Cost:                 Free- donations at the time of booking appreciated

Walk 2 – Stage 6 CVWWT

• Date & Time:     17th May 9am
• Route:                Sevenhill Hotel to Pauletts
• Distance:            Approximately 9km
• Wineries:           Sevenhill Cellars, Hill River Wines, Pikes, Pauletts
• Food & Drink:     Multiple Opportunities to buy from wineries
• Transport:          Make your way to Sevenhill Hotel, we’ll try and have a plan to get you back
• Cost:                 Free- donations at the time of booking appreciated

Walks 3 & 4 – Lunch Walks

Each lunch walk takes place during the more relaxed Gourmet Week, walks are shorter, there is an opportunity to stop for a break at a winery and do a tasting if you like. The walk ends at a Restaurant where you can join us for lunch.

• Distance:            Approximately 6km
• Wineries:           Jeanneret & Skillogalee

• Transport:          Make your way to Corner Farrell Flat Rd and Clampett Rd, we’ll try and have a plan to get you back

The CVWWT committee would like to invite you to join us celebrate the start of the hiking season with the opening of our first
campground, ‘Redwood Ridge’, located on stage 2 of the CVWWT.

Redwood Ridge is located on private property adjacent to Spring Gully Conservation Park, at an elevation of 560m it is amoung the highest parts of the Clare Valley region.

Saturday 10th May
• 10am – Meet at Jim Barry Wines for start of hike.
• 15km – Hike through Bourke and Travers, Sussex Squire,
Eldredges and some brand new sections of the Trail to
Stringybark Ridge campsite.
• After the hike, climb the small hill to ‘the Top’ for a BBQ,
refreshments and stunning views overlooking the valley to
the east.
• 3pm – Official opening with by a mystery guest…(!)
• $10 donation to help cover the cost of the BBQ.
• BYO drinks, chairs, tent/swag.
• Overnight – at Redwood Ridge for those who are keen
will ‘road test’ the new campsite that evening.

Sunday 11th May
• 7:30am – Campers roll down the hill and through Jeanneret to
Skillogalee where they meet the Sunday day-hikers.
• 8am – 9am – Breakfast at Skillogalee (coffee and bacon and
egg rolls).
• 4km – Hike through Mitchells to Kilikanoon, then optional Mt
Oakden climb via the Spur Trail.
• Official wind up.

We’d like to acknowledge and thank George Adams, who is the designer of the fence stiles which are installed around the Clare Valley, at last count there were 80 of them.

George, originally a Scottish Plumber, is a legend of the South Australian Walking Community.

In addition to his great work with the Lavender Federation Trail and The South Australian Recreation Trails Inc (SARTI), some years ago George put his design skills to work and came up with a remarkable fence stile, but not just any stile, a stile ideally suited to the rugged, often rocky and dry South Australian conditions, his simple and practical design was easy to install, sturdy, easy to use and most will still be in use when the rest of us are long gone. The design was so successful that they have been produced in their hundreds and can be found along the length of the Lavender Trail from Murray Bridge to Clare.

SARTI were keen supporters of to CVWWT from day 1 and provided invaluable advice, George was on the SARTI committee and provided us with our first shipment of fence stiles.

We of course then blatantly copied the “George Stile” and had the Clare Mens Shed produce another 80 of them.

We are immensely grateful to George for not only sharing his crafty design and fabrication skills, but also for the great work he’s done over the years to build and promote SA walking trails.

In recognition of his great work George was awarded the Long Standing Contribution/Distinctive Service Award by Walking SA in 2018.

We are unaware of any awards received for stile design, which is a travesty!

It’s almost finished, the 14th of May 2023 will mark 2 years since we opened stage 1 of the trail.

We will have 120km of stunning hiking and walking trail throughout the Clare Valley, join us on the 13th or 14th of May (preferably both) to celebrate the momentous occasion.

Today we began installing new signage at points where walkers enter private property.

Currently we have 20 private landholders and 13 Wineries who have opened up their properties to generously support the trail, you can see them all here; Supporters

After extremely successful openings of stages 1 and 2 over the past 12 months, we are very excited to announce the opening of Stage 6 of the CVWWT on the 1st of May 2022.

This stage will run from the Clare Valley Wine, Food & Tourism Centre to Paulett Wines via the Hill River Valley. Pauletts will host a gourmet BBQ and premium Paulett wines for all wakers (available for purchase on the day).

Not long now before the opening of Stage 2 of the CVWWT on Sunday the 3rd of October 2021.

Stage 2 is 19km long and runs from Armagh (Jim Barry Wines) to Spring Gully (Jeanneret Wines).
